Zenith Defy Xtreme and Aero Luxury Watches
Zenith brings both extreme functionality and fashionable modern style with their line of defy luxury watches. They offer a wide variety of color combinations and varying dial feature options to satisfy whatever your needs may be and match whatever fashion you are rocking. What does one look like you want to know? Well here it is in all of the Zenith advertisement glory.

The Defy Xtreme looks particularly menacing and impressive here, with its subdials to display the fifty five hour power reserve and thirty second counter. The Xtreme also boasts of a 1000 meter water resistance. How that’s for a rugged luxury watch? Want to see what else Zenith can do? Here’s their Defy Aero looking rather flight ready.

The Aero is definitely worth noticing, due to the unique features it has. That coupled with a very current style is sure to meet your needs and wants all in one. There’s subdials for the equally impressive 55 hour power reserve, also two subdials for the Chronograph features. Paired with a rotating bezel, that makes this a very useful watch. With a water resistance of 300 meters, it’s not too shy of hard work either. Clearly a classically stylish modern luxury watch.

Meccaniche Veloci is both Fashionable and mechanically remarkable.
Meccaniche Veloci is known for many things, such as their cutting edge designs, high profile partnerships, and desirability. There’s a reason for a reputation such as this, they’ve put the work in to deserve it. The watches are stylish and modern and have many eye catching design elements.
Meccaniche Veloci has partnered up with Brembo who is the biggest name in motorsports high performance braking. They used that partnership to develop the carbon ceramic Quattro Valvole CCM, a very unique watch patterned after the 1984 Ferrari 308 GTB/GTS 4 Valve Cylinder block. Meccanache Veloci also partnered with Dell’Orto carburetors and the unique car company Spada Vetture.

The watches they produce are popular, as exemplified by the soccer player Cristiano Renaldo being spotted wearing a Quattro Valvole in Los Angelos in training. Renaldo is a Portuguese player currently a striker at Real Madrid and also the captain of Portugal’s national team. Other people that have been seen wearing the brand are Davide Brivio, Alberto Casati, Kristian Ghedina, Lapo Elkann and Luca Scassa.
Meccaniche Veloci is an Italian designed watch that is followed through with craftsmanship and class that will stay current even with changing times. With high quality Swiss movements, you can be sure that the timekeeping will stay as up to date as the styling.

Luxury Watch Companies are working to stay popular.
With the economy working on recovering from a recession, luxury watches are also recovering from a downturn in business. Not only has the economy affected watch use, but according to Pew research 83% of American adults have cell phones. Due to that, many people don’t use watches to actually tell the time but instead as a fashion statement.
The Swiss watch companies are trying to revive the fashion element of the luxury watch market. Companies know that they have to stay current and make an impact in order to boost their sales. "We decided the best way to get into the U.S. market would be to make a strong statement," said Stephen Urquhart, president of Omega, a division of Bienne, Switzerland-based Swatch Group, the world's largest watchmaker. "To really tap the American market, the only way to do it is to open our own stores." Following their move, both Rolex and Tag Heuer both opened brick and mortar stores. Hopefully the increase in visibility will mean an increase in business.
Even some of the more forefront members of America aren’t really dressing in the most expensive luxury watches. For example, President Obama wears a $350 Jorg Gray 6500 Chronometer. Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner often wears a $30 Timex Ironman. Comedian Conan O'Brien was spotted by celebrity watch blog Watch-ID.com sporting a Suunto Core Extreme Edition Red watch, typically less than $500. And teen heartthrob Justin Bieber wears a Casio G-Shock G-Lide, which sells for less than $100. Others however are always seen wearing the most expensive, so it’s not an entirely empty market. Especially overseas, in Europe and Asia, having the latest luxury watch is a first step towards looking successful.
The economy should improve according to leading experts, and we expect the luxury watch market to improve along with it. Prices are probably lower now than they will be as the economy keeps growing. While sales have maybe shifted from retail stores to online stores, quality is everything it ever was as manufacturers increase quality control in an effort to keep customers happy in these tight times.

The new iPod Nano with Multi-touch is truly a unique opportunity for innovators. A very compact multi-touch interface with 8gb or 16 gb of memory opens up the doors to a remarkable idea. Turning an MP3 player into a wristwatch, crazy you say? No, it has much more the stroke of genius than insanity. Since displaying a clock is no challenge, many other options are conceivable that would make for really unique watch and indeed an interactive experience. Not that “smart” wrist watches are an unheard of idea, but here’s one with mass support (Apple’s fantastic customer service) and MP3 playback/connectivity with iTunes. Here are some pictures/renderings to illustrate just what we’re on about.
We’d love to see Apple get a hold of the idea, and maybe some other more style conscious designers so that it becomes a more aesthetic display of technology. Those shown are from Lunatik. While certainly a streamlined design, competition can only improve the looks.
- Kale Golden The New 2010 Rolex Watch Collection
Ok, so as you might expect there’s no radical new offerings from Rolex, as they stick to their tradition and continue their classy luxury line. New for this year we have a an addition to the Datejust collection with the Datejust Lady 31mm, and the New Submariner Date, and the New Explorer in 39mm.
For starters, let us take a look at the New Datejust Lady 31 MM.
The watch boasts of a COSC certification, and as the name suggests has a 31mm case. Rolex claims it is waterproof to 100 meters or 330ft. For those enthusiasts, you’ll recognize the 2235 Calibre Movement and there are different bracelets on different offerings in the line-up. From the Oyster bracelet and clasp, to the Jubilee bracelet and crown clasp you can have your choice. There are also varied amounts of diamonds, ranging from none at all to set of stunning 46 brilliant examples. My personal favorite is the yellow gold and steel with a silver dial pictured above. What a stylish way to display that you’re not afraid to flash some bling.
Next up I’ll show you the New Submariner Date, what an exceptionally good looking Rolex.

The case diameter is 40 mm, and made from 904L steel. Being a submariner, this watch is considerably water resistant, with a rating of 300 m (1,000 ft). Rolex of course uses the high quality Calibre 3135 movement. In my extremely humble opinion, this is one of the best looking Rolexes ever produced. The centerpiece of this centerfold is the ceramic bezel which is fantastic looking. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so here are a few more of this stunning watch.

Here’s the new Oyster Glidelock Bracelet that I think looks absolutely smashing.

Finally, there’s the New Explorer in 39MM.

The only edition is the fixed smooth bezel and that’s ok with us. The Calbre 3132 movement is COSC certified and water resistant to 100 meters/330 FT. Served up on a Oyster bracelet with Oysterlock clasp and Easylink, it should be plenty comfortable to wear.
All three of these are easily wonderful watches, and worth taking a look at. As of the time of this posting, there probably isn’t much of an offering of these on the Bay, but that’ll change.
- Kale Golden There have been very many different actors for the different EON James Bond Films, and for the most part the watches have changed with the various incarnations of Bond. Each title is a link to IMDb in case you’re unfamiliar with the movie you can go there to read about it.
The first star of an EON production James Bond movie was Sean Connery, who debuted in 1962 with Dr. No . On the ever sophisticated wrist was a Rolex Submariner. Connery returned for From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice; all of which also featured the Rolex Submariner as his timepiece of choice. Occasionally Q what grant Bond a gadget watch which was often a Rolex variant or perhaps an indeterminable watch with a spectacular gadget that took center stage.
Following Connery as Bond was George Lazenby starring in the less successful On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,. The producers however stuck to the same great watch and he can be seen wearing the same Rolex Submariner as Sean Connery did for the first 5 EON Bond films.
Connery returned for Diamonds are Forever, which was to be his last EON Bond Film, and this also featured the Rolex Submariner. Connery also starred in Never say Never Again, but as this was not one of the main Bond films we didn’t seek out what he was wearing.
Roger Moore was introduced to us in 1973 as the new Bond and would continue to star in the most EON Bond films of all time. Sean Connery would star in as many Bond films, but one of them wasn’t from the same production team, thus making his starring roles six to Moore’s seven. Roger Moore held on to previous Bond’s time piece affinities by wearing a Rolex Submariner in his first film Live and Let Die, and a slightly different Rolex Submariner in the Man with the Golden Gun. Moore would then mix things up by switching to a Seiko 0674 in The Spy Who Loved Me and then a Seiko M354-5019 in the subsequent film Moonraker. Moore continued his jog through watches when he changed to a SEIKO Duo-Time H357 in For Your Eyes Only. Not wanting to leave the trend of a new watch for a new movie the SEIKO Sports 100 G757 was Bond’s watch in Octopussy. Moore wore another Seiko in A View to Kill, but doesn’t show it on screen well enough to determine exactly what model it is.
Timothy Dalton took his turn as Bond in The Living Daylights and would wear a TAG Heuer 980.013 Professional on his wrist. Dalton’s second film License to Kill would show him sporting a Rolex Submariner, oh the nostalgia.
Pierce Brosnan came to the role next following a large-scale shift in production team and directors, and introduced the Omega Seamaster 2541.80 to the world as Bond’s Watch of choice in Goldeneye. In Tomorrow Never Dies we saw Bond stick to Omega, but switch to the Seamaster 2531.80. Brosnan wore that watch again in The World is Not Enough , and for his final Bond role in Die Another Day in 2002.
The world was blindsided with “Blonde Bond” as many called Daniel Craig when he came in for the first EON run of Casino Royale in 2006. Craig would wear as Brosnan wore and carried an Omega Seamaster 2220.80 throughout his adventures. Quantum of Solace is the latest Bond film and Craig switched to an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 2201.50 which he wears quite well.
This list is of course ignoring some of the purpose built gadget watched that over the years Bond has worn that are harder to identify due to them being a saw, or a flamethrower, or any other of a dozen different gadget that Bond might need. Also, this list isn’t guaranteed and we appreciate any information you can give to help revise this list and get it as accurate as possible.
- Kale Golden The up rise of watch making in Switzerland cannot be attributed to the reforms implemented by Jean Calvin, but they were clearly motivational. Jewels were banned from wear, so jewelers and gold-smiths moved their abilities into the realm of watch making. Watches that had been made in Geneva were already increasing in notoriety before the end of the century. At the beginning of the next century the Watchmakers’ Guild of Geneva was begun.
Daniel Jeanrichard moved from a crowded Geneva to the Jura Mountains and would start a tradition of watch making there that remains even now. Throughout the years, many innovations were birthed from a comparably small country of Switzerland as they would further and further assert their notoriety as the watch making leaders.
Abraham-Louis Perrelet would create the perpetual watch in 1770 which would be the beginnings of most modern self-winding watches. Continuing this theme of invention through the centuries, Adrien Philippe, of what would be the renowned Patek Philippe watch company, invented pendent winding watches.
The wristwatch increased in popularity near the time that the First World War ended, and in 1926 the self-winding wristwatch was introduced and would come to revolutionize the luxury watch market. Quartz wristwatches wouldn’t become popular until after the famous Beta 21 wowed the world with the new technology. Following that release in 1967, quartz wristwatches have seen numerous technological improvements.
Why should you choose a Swiss Watch? Swiss watches are simply unmatched in history of quality or in advancements of technology. Watches have been manufactured other places, but nowhere has the fame, or respect of Switzerland’s watch industry for very good reasons. Attention to detail and quality craftsmanship as is seen in Swiss Watch making is unparalleled anywhere else. To earn the Swiss Made writing on the dial, a watch must have been assembled in Switzerland, and as such is backed up by over 4 centuries of skilled craftsman and a history of dedication to a singular horological perfection.
- Kale Golden The Invicta Care Foundation began with the purpose of giving aid to those who are often overlooked, and has been able to do just that. Due to a generous move by the Invicta Watch Group, the Invicta Care Foundation is able to use 100% of all donations and sales to help pioneering organizations who seek to help those who need it. Invicta Watch group pays for all of the operational, managerial, marketing, and production costs of the Invicta Care Foundation, which frees up every penny of the donations and funds raised to be used for the right purpose. If we look back to shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, we can see that the Invicta Care Foundation raised $127,846 to help with disaster relief. That’s a staggering figure when you remember that all of that was able to go right to the Red Cross to help the people who needed it most.
Looking more recently you can see that the Invicta Care Foundation teamed up with Red Wing Shoes and Soles4Souls when they helped donate 20,000 pairs of shoes to those who otherwise couldn’t have had them. And Invicta Care Foundation isn’t constrained to only helping out in our own country, those shoes travelled overseas to take care of feet in multiple different countries. But one thing that we find particularly commendable is that the ICF doesn’t give blind uninvolved donations, they helped get shoes and money to the local and most involved charities that are really making a day-to-day difference.
The Invicta Watch Group actually donated a crate full of Invicta product to be sold on Christmas day as a one day run where 100% of the proceeds would go to the Invicta Care Foundation to be donated to The Hetrick-Martin Institute. Nearly $30,000 was raised in this one day sale.
We're not playing favorites with watch companies, but whenever a fine watch company is doing something charitible it just gives all the more reason to talk about them. Here’s the Invicta Care Foundation’s page on Invicta’s site , and their number is 954-921-2444 if you want to get in contact with them to donate or otherwise find out what they are about.
Keep checking in for your watch news and to get steered towards what’s hot.

Another neat watch is the Tokyo Flash Negative, which you read by looking at the negative space to tell the time. Look at what isn’t lit up, and you can see the time. For example:

If you want more info, just check in out on TokyoFlash’s page on the Negative.
A very stlylish but still modern and wild watch is the Tokyo Flash Galaxy. Seen here :

There is a description and more information available here about the TokyoFlash Galaxy. I believe they retail for $127.03. I guess that works out to a more logical number in the Japanese Yen.
One of the latest watches from TokyoFlash is the Kisai Round Trip

Another USB rechargeable LED watch, this time in a pocket watch version. Pricing and more information can be had here

- Kale Golden Ok, so not quite $6 M, it sold for 6.26 M Swiss Francs which according to today’s exchange rates is 5.4 million USD but Monday May 10th when it sold was $5.62M+ . Still though, quite a remarkable sum for quite a remarkable watch. The watch was a Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph, which as of now is the most expensive yellow gold watch ever sold on auction according to Christies, I wonder what will try to outsell it at that price. The watch sold Monday May 11th according to Christie’s to an undisclosed museum. The watch was made in 1933-1934 and has an avant-garde case and was a forerunner of future generations of complicated wristwatches according to Aurel Bacs who also called the watch the Mona Lisa of all watches. Strange, now that he mentions that, I think I see the famous almost smile…

Not explosively unique by today’s standards, but undeniably attractive and for the time was extremely forward thinking and quite a one of a kind. The seller is quoted as saying
"I started buying watches in the 1970s, at a time when these amazing objects appealed to very few collectors and even fewer scholars were exploring this charming field. In my opinion, wristwatches are the most beautiful wearable item created in the 20th century,"
Buying watches as he did seems to be a very wise idea, as his collection of 20 different watches brought a total of 9.6 million Swiss francs. The buyer however made no comments, and there is an unconfirmed rumor that it was in fact the Patek Philippe museum in Switzerland.
- Kale Golden Girard-Perregaux made a bold move to get into the popular Madison Avenue shopping section. Madison Avenue in New York City, New York has long been famous for its luxurious and diverse shopping offerings, but up until now Girard-Perregaux hasn’t made a showing. The New York store follows in the footsteps of their seven other major stores opened in Gstaad, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, Prague and Beirut. Making up for lost time, GP introduced their new store which is the epitome of class and sophistication just like you would expect from their watches. Some of watches offered there sell for a respectable $10,000 and up. There are actually two watches that available exclusively at the NY store. Here’s a picture from the interior of the shop, classy modern lines showing off their fine time pieces.
It’s no small wonder that the store is so stylish, as it was designed in part by Ermanno Previdi and also by GP’s President. While a mere 900 square feet, the store has 16 foot tall ceiling that really make it feel grand and much larger. Girard-Perregaux has even brought in a skilled watchmaker named Yuriy Vasekevich who has a glass workspace that is left open so that people can approach him with questions. It’s like watching an artist at work as he fiddles about with various parts of watch movements. The address is 701 Madison Avenue if you happen to be lucky enough to live nearby and would like to go check out some of the exquisite watches on display there, here’s what you need to keep your eyes open for on busy Madison Avenue.
If you want to visit Girard-Perregaux to see some of their absolutely beautiful pieces just go to Girard-Perrgaux’s English Home Page

Have you ever wanted a Perrelet watch but found that you have an iPhone instead ?
Do you own a Perrelet watch and still not have enough Perrelet in your life ?
If the answer to either one of those is yes, Perrelet have released an app especially for you. Seen here

The app offers both the Turbine and the Diamond Flower for Men and Women Apple iPhone users respectively. With this iPhone app can now see the time on a lovely Perrelet watch with a quick download. With multiple models of each collection, you can even customize it.
We thought it would be a nice app to run while charging for a simple but elegant tabletop clock. Using the accelerometers in the phone, the program senses movement and spins the rotors just like on the real watch, pretty nifty. While on the real Perrelet automatic watches the spinning of the rotor keeps the watch wound, on the app it won’t wind up your battery. I guess we shouldn’t be too suprised, but with the ability to set the actual time, the app isn’t just eye candy either. There’s some historical information and contact info in the App as well.
We were hoping to see the app for the Android operating system too, so we could try it out on our Droid, but no luck so far. We’ll keep our fingers crossed and see if one comes out.
To get the app for free, just download from the iTunes store. Give it a try, it’s free and fun. Perrelet for iPhone on iTunes
Or if you’re intersted in reading some information from the Perrelet themselves, here’s the story from their website. Perrelet’s own news on their App
